Take Action Now For BLET NM Teamsters
5/13/2025 - Teamsters Local 492 would like to bring all of our members up to speed and provide an update on the cross-border issue and how it impacts New Mexico’s Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) Teamster Membership.

The cross-border issue directly impacts New Mexico’s Teamster Division 192 out of Santa Teresa, New Mexico. Union Pacific had previously requested a waiver from the FRA in 2021. They had intended to run Ferromex crews from Juarez, Mexico, through El Paso, and into Santa Teresa. Thankfully, the FRA told them no due to exceeding the 20-mile limit on transfer train air tests.
The New Mexico BLET Teamster Members are directly under attack as the Union Pacific is already running 10–12 trains into Eagle Pass, Texas daily with Mexican domiciled crews. We all know that what they do in Eagle Pass today will show up in other terminals tomorrow or even on other railroads (BNSF).
The timing of this informational campaign is critical. In the next seven days, Union Pacific is expected to operate their business train into New Mexico in an effort to wine and dine various business people and politicians in New Mexico. These are the same politicians at the state level that control our legislative destiny as we work on the legislation that impacts you. Now is the time to make sure that they hear a clear, concise message on the cross-border issue from each and every one of you, your families, and friends.
Based on the first 48 hours of this informational campaign, there have been over 3800 people that have signed on already. I am offering a friendly challenge to each of you. I want to see the total number of people signed on at over 5,000. What do you say? Can we achieve that goal by Friday, May 16? I think we can… on a separate note, BLET’s National President Wallace wants to see us have over 10,000 or more signatures. I believe that we can do this, but will need your support.
