Teamster Introduces US Congressman Martin Heinrich at Rally

The Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local Union No. 492, Walter R. Maestas, Introduces U.S. Congressman Martin Heinrich at Rally

Monday, the ‘Heinrich for Senate’ campaign held a rally at the Albuquerque IBEW Union Hall where they requested that Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local Union No. 492, Walter R. Maestas introduce Congressman Martin Heinrich to the large crowd of supporters.

Mr. Maestas spoke of the importance of having a strong Labor/Union supporter in political office and testified to the great history of support Congressman Heinrich has given the New Mexico Teamsters in the past. Walter recounted the valuable assistance Congressman Heinrich gave when Local 492 was at an impasse situation during contract negotiations with the Estancia Valley Solid Waste Authority and after a successful outcome, Congressman Heinrich went beyond all expectations, by following up with the Estancia Valley Teamsters personally, with a job site visit.

Brother Maestas also spoke of the occasions whereas the Congressman has come to the Teamsters Union Hall to speak at Steward Seminars and other events. As his schedule is so tight and time consuming this reflects his commitment to Labor and their concerns. Congressman Heinrich, not only “talks the talk, he walks the walk”. Unlike others, he is there for Labor’s needs even after being elected.

When the Teamsters announced the endorsement of Heinrich, Walter R. Maestas stated, “He has been firmly committed to working families and 100 percent behind the issues that are important to us, a vote for Martin Heinrich will be a solid vote for worker’s rights.” Due to Congressman Martin Heinrich’s actions and commitment during his tenure as a US Congressman, the Local Union endorsed him as soon as he announced his candidacy for the, soon to be vacated, US Senate position once Senator Bingaman retires.

Martin Heinrich understands what a Union job does for families. He grew up in a Union household, his father retired from the IBEW as a Lineman. Teamsters Local 492 is proud to have him on our side.
