2024 Membership Appreciation Day Notice

I have had questions from a few members asking if we will be having a Member Appreciation Day this year. In short, the answer is no. The Executive Board decided in July to suspend this year's event. At the time we were planning this year's Appreciation Day, there were still a lot of our members who were on layoff both at ABF as well as UPS. We felt that having a celebration while our members were not working would not sit well with our membership.

This year has been a year full of change for many. At UPS, the company is in the process of automating its HUB operation as well as laying people off all around the state. They are closing Customer Counters throughout the state and have notified this local of at least three Change of Operations. Although the economy has contributed to some of these changes, companies choosing corporate profits over their people is also a factor.

Although there will not be a Member Appreciation Day as everyone is used to, we have decided to sponsor the Central Labor Council's picnic at the Platinum Level. So, at this time, I would like to invite all our 492 members and family to join us in celebrating Labor Day with organized labor. Lunch will be provided, as well as music. The event is held at the Balloon Park, accessed off Alameda just past the Balloon Museum and will take place September 2, 2024, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Teamsters Local 492 will provide Labor Day tee shirts on a first come, first served basis as quantity and sizes will be limited. So come out early and look for the Teamster Tent.

New Mexico Teamsters Win at NMTDC 2024 On May 18, 2024, New Mexico Teamsters converged from all over the state to compete in the New Mexico Truck Driving Championship. Held at the Isleta Casino, the decades-old event encourages dedicated drivers, spread among 9 divisions, to test their skills among 98 fellow competitors for the title of State Champion in their division.

4/16/2024- It is with great pleasure that I can report to all our members, that Teamsters Local 492 has won a hard-fought grievance for our Sysco brothers and sisters! On April 03, 2020, a grievance was filed to enforce the forty-hour language in our contract. This grievance was filed during the Walter Maestas administration, in the early stages of Covid-19.
