4/24/2020 - Summary of Material Modifications - Notice Regarding Benefits and Coverage Related to COVID-19
The Western Teamsters Welfare Trust has outlined the following steps in response to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic. The Trustees took action to implement the actions below to ensure coverage is in place for members in this difficult time. The health and safety for all plan participants is a serious concern for the Trustees and an ongoing effort is underway to keep everyone apprised of any changes that may occur as we learn more.
- The Board of Trustees has enacted a temporary COBRA rate of $0.00 for the 2-month period of May and June 2020 as a result of any layoffs or loss of coverage as a result of COVID-19. After the 2-months of May and June 2020 have passed, COBRA premiums will resume at normal rates. Please contact the Fund office to determine what the COBRA amount will be starting July 1, 2020 should you want to continue your COBRA benefits.
- Temporary suspension of moving coverage to the Catastrophic Plan due to partial hours worked during March and April 2020. This is to ensure that your coverage will not be interrupted.
- Out-of-pocket costs associated with testing for COVID-19 for both PPO and non-PPO providers under the Indemnity Plan and Indemnity Plus Plan will be waived. This would include both the cost of the test as well as office visits or other provider charges related to the testing and would apply to all active and retired participants. Treatment of COVID-19 would still be subject to applicable cost sharing and PPO/non-PPO benefits depending on the provider's status.
- Kaiser, Select Health, United Healthcare, Presbyterian, and BlueCross BlueShield of New Mexico have also notified the Trust that they have waived participant co-pays for services related to COVID-19 testing.
The Western Teamsters Welfare Trust and its Trustees are continually monitoring the situation to ensure that the Trust addresses the current needs of its participants.
Please contact the Fund Administrator, Northwest Administrators, for any additional questions or clarification on the items listed above. The Fund Administrator can be reached at (800) 872-5439.

September 15, 2018 - October Notice for Nov 5th Retiree Insurance Meeting
January 3, 2018- For those of you working for ABF or YRC, Western Teamsters Welfare Trust (WTWT) handles your Dental benefits. Since September 1, 2011, the PPO for dental coverage was through Carington MaximumCare Network. Western Teamsters Welfare Trust (WTWT) has changed their PPO network to Anthem BlueCross Dental Network as of January 1, 2018. Click Here to read the letter sent out in November 2017. If you were not using Carington before, you were likely using a WTWT Non-PPO provider, which you can continue to do.
The Anthem BlueCross Dental Network has nothing to do with your current Health insurance, it is for Dental only.
You may have recently received Dental cards for The Anthem BlueCross Dental Network. WTWT will be mailing new cards again by the end of January 2018 to replace the ones you received recently because the phone number in the back is incorrect. Please watch the mail for it. If you have any questions you can call 1-800-872-5439.
