4/16/2024- It is with great pleasure that I can report to all our members, that Teamsters Local 492 has won a hard-fought grievance for our Sysco brothers and sisters! On April 03, 2020, a grievance was filed to enforce the forty-hour language in our contract. This grievance was filed during the Walter Maestas administration, in the early stages of Covid-19.
In August of 2021, an arbitration award was issued, making this grievance seem to be on the verge of being settled. Unfortunately, due to the company's noncompliance, Local 492 was forced to take this case to Federal Court in February of 2022. After prevailing each time a third party was brought in to help settle this case, Sysco was either unwilling or unable to settle with terms we believed would be satisfactory to our members’ claim.
Presently, in 2024, as Local 492 was preparing to take the claim back to arbitration, Sysco returned to the table with an offer for over $180,000.00. We felt this offer was fair and compensated the members issues addressed in the original grievance.
I would first like to thank all our Sysco members who have patiently waited for this to be settled; although this settlement took longer than expected, please be assured Local 492 never stopped fighting for what you all deserved. Next, I would like to thank Business Agent Tracy McCarty, who diligently conveyed this claim to resolution. In conclusion, I would like to put all companies on notice; if you enter into a contract with Teamsters Local 492, we will not stop fighting until our members receive what they deserve.
Fraternally,
Andrew L. Palmer
